There are five ligaments directly related to the liver, including the following:

Coronary ligament: extends as a peritoneal reflection from the diaphragm to the liver in a frontal direction, and has two layers that meet on the right;

Triangular ligament (left and right): formed on the coronary ligament edges by merging of both its layers;

Falciform ligament: extends in a sagittal direction from the diaphragm to the diaphragmatic surface of the liver;

Round ligament of the liver (ligamentum teres hepatis): a fibrous remnant of the umbilical vein that extends from the internal aspect of the umbilicus up to the liver; the round ligament lies in the left sagittal fissure;

Ligamentum venosum: a fibrous remnant of the ductus venosus, which during embryonic development extended between the umbilical vein and the inferior vena cava.

There is also the hepaticoduodenal ligament, which extends between the porta hepatis and the superior part of the duodenum. It is a portion of the lesser omentum and contains the portal vein, the proper hepatic artery, and the common bile duct (known as the portal triad).
