The cauda equina is a bundle of nerve roots located at the bottom end of the spinal cord. It is formed by the roots of the lower spinal nerves - the second through fifth lumbar nerve pairs (L2-L5), the five sacral nerve pairs (S1-S5), as well as the coccygeal nerve.
