Discrepancy of spinal cord and spine

The segments of the spinal cord are defined by one spinal nerve pair, and they are not always situated at the level of their corresponding vertebrae. Therefore, the spinal cord is shorter than the spine. This difference between the spine and spinal cord is called the discrepancy of the spinal cord and spine (vertebral-spinal discrepancy).
